About us, aims, tuition and exams

History

Banbury Shukokai was established in 1987. The style of Karate we practice is called Shukokai. Freely translated means “way for all”.

Shukokai

Shukokai is a fast, powerful, traditional style of Karate which involves learning and practicing fighting techniques through using natural body movement to generate power via speed.

Our aim

At Banbury Shukokai, our aim is to give all students by way of progressive training, the ability to achieve physical and mental awareness in the art of karate and personal protection, whilst learning a very effective form of self defence. Our schools instill self confidence, discipline and respect.

Tuition

We are very much a traditional karate group with a strong emphasis on basics, kata, impact padwork, kata bunkai and kumite. A general lesson will normally consist of theory, technical breakdown, practical application and last but not least, hard work. Our policy in Banbury Shukokai is all students give 100 percent effort and in return our instructor will give you 100 percent tuition and coaching.

Grading Examinations

To be able to progress and be promoted in karate you will be given the opportunity to be assessed and graded up to three times a year, depending upon your attendance, hard work, skill factor and attitude. In return, if successful you will be awarded the appropriate grade and coloured belt for your standard. All gradings at Banbury Shukokai are registered and sanctioned through the S.K.A. / E.K.G.B.* which is the only karate governing body in this country recognised by the sports council.
